Why Does God Allow Suffering?

The problem of evil is the most powerful objection to the existence of God. The Bible does not give a simple answer — it gives something better: a God who enters into suffering Himself, and a promise that suffering will one day be redeemed.

Key Question

If God is good and all-powerful, why does He allow suffering?

Evidence

Key Scriptures (ESV)

Romans 8:18

“For I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worth comparing with the glory that is to be revealed to us.”

Romans 8:28

“And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose.”

“God is most glorified in us when we are most satisfied in Him — even in suffering. The deepest joy is not the absence of pain but the presence of God in the midst of it.”

“The cross is God's answer to the problem of evil. He did not explain it from heaven — He came down and experienced it. That changes everything about how we face our own suffering.”
