The prophet Ezekiel delivered this message to the Jewish exiles living in Babylon during the sixth century BC. They had suffered greatly because of the rebellion of their past kings and priests, whom God rebukes as wicked shepherds. In this dark time, Ezekiel brings a message of future hope and divine intervention. God promises to establish a new covenant of peace and to place the Messiah over them. The original audience would have understood the promise of seasonal rain as a sign of God renewing His covenant, reversing the curses of drought that came from their disobedience. We all go through dry seasons in our spiritual lives where we feel exhausted, empty, or distant from God. Ezekiel 34:26 reminds us that God is the one who sends the rain. When we trust Him as our Good Shepherd, we can rest knowing He provides exactly what we need at the right time. His showers of blessing might look like renewed peace, unexpected provision, or a fresh sense of His presence during a difficult trial. We do not have to manufacture our own spiritual growth or strive for blessings in our own strength. Instead, we are called to stay close to the Shepherd and wait for His perfect timing. As God pours His grace into our lives, we are also called to be a blessing to the people around us. The refreshment we receive from the Lord is meant to overflow to others.
